From Tour Guide to Tech Trainer: Learning Presentation Skills and Storytelling the hard way
My path to tech storytelling expert wasn’t your typical journey.
My career began as a tour guide in Berlin. I was giving tours 2-3 times per day, 6 days a week. I gave 3,000 tours to over 100,000 people. I gave tours to all sorts of people: from business people to children. I gave tours in the rain, in extreme temperatures (from -20ºC to 42ºC!) and with endless distractions.
And to make it even more challenging, what I earned was directly linked to how well I engaged people.
It was a real baptism of fire in presenting and public speaking. I had to get good fast or I wouldn’t make my rent.
The answer? Storytelling.
